Yesterday, on the Paris Game Festival, Nadeo announced the future of Trackmania: Trackmania 2. In a highly dynamic video show, Florent Castelnerac (Nadeo head) demonstrated the new features to the crowd. The sequel will contain 3 brandnew environments and loads of new features: For example players can now design their own blocks and exchange them as they do with tracks right now. Terraforming and Maniascript will make the game more dynamic than ever. Trackmania 2 is announced for 2010. More detailed information about the features and video/images can be found in the 2nd post of this news thread.

I do worry that it'll be a big split down the middle of the community. Saying that, a new game should bring in a lot of new players who we need to capture and lure into league racing.
I guess we'll have to see what happens then.

It's not like you can't go back or do both. I'd jump right over if it turns out to be good, and then sometimes play TMF too

well we already had a situation which was close to the current one when sunrise came out... i would say that first, we need to see how it is when it comes out...
we are obviously going to be on TM2 from day 1, and we will have a league in the early days of the game (much like we did with TM and TMS (and TMN)). and if TM2 is really a massive hit, and the community massively adopts the new TM, we will follow...
with probably a restructuring of the current offer of competitions, or the TMU competitions running in parallel with the TM2 league... or the LE and SL as summer leagues... i don't honnestly know at this point... too early to tell...

will this be a public discussion and an admin decision, or only an admin task?
(or even a public decision )

it will mostly be a decision made by the game users themselves... if after 2 months of TM2, we see that 80% of the drivers spend their time on TM2, and that TMUF is only active when there is a league day, we will need to balance the competition in order to be in line with what the players are playing... but this being said, the UL will likely go on for a while as it gathers all the TM enviros... so no, we will not abandon the UL and TMUF, but if (and I insist strongly on the IF) TM2 is a massive success, and people play TM2 instead of TM, there will be some changes, mainly because a year is made of 52 weeks, and there are limits to what we can do in that span.

Will home-made blocks be agreed in league maps ?
Nowadays, i just think we have all 2 UL, 1 LE and maybe 1 SL to enjoy before TM2.

will depend of how the home made blocks can be integrated in the game, and if it doesn't cause problems... but if the integration of this feature is perfectly integrated, i don't know why we would refuse home made blocks...
---------
as i said, we will be on TM2, we will continue league on TMUF, but maybe things will change... will also depend of whether the players keep playing both games, or whether people playing TM2 are not playing TMUF and vice versa. if there is a distinct split of the TM2 and TMUF community, we might consider running TM2 leagues at the same time as TMUF leagues, but it's a long shot, since i believe that many many many TMUF people were expecting new enviros avidly...

hm, i fear for 'killing' the original and sunrise environments, since with an update of the tm2 feature to create your own blocks, it would be so interesting still.
but on the other hand, if tm2 will be as - or even more league friendly than tmf, it can't be bad. still, it would suck to see forever being played less and less. i guess it will be a huge step to take for most of us around here...

Importing a custom 3d model as a track block.
I doubt the TMU envs will be re-used, the new envs they showed look like they were based on them. Also, adding all the old envs would defeat the whole point of making this a sequel, Trackmania 2. They might add other new ones later though (I hope).

This would be great, thanks for the information.
Could someone explain to me what "import blocks to the game" will mean? I found this expression on the German TM blog.
