I agree for New content and Environments.

I however disagree for the TM 2, Reasons:

TM Forever was invented as a hub to keep "forever" so never excluding the old but allways able to add new stuff into the "hub". Making another one would make the whole forever concept ridiculous and therfore exclude old TM communities. Not good really.

Yes some bugs are there ... but they were there before too ... Lets just hope for some new enviros without bugs and Not think of exlcuding a long term and specialist tm community (ie: TMO, TMS, TMN) The whole idea is to "knit" all of TM Communities together and a new game is against this principle ... I will defend it to the hilt

I love my tm of old and new ... one menu for the old and new stuff will do just fine

Well, new content would be nice for sure. I'd also pay for it.

TM2 would be kinda weird now, after a "TM Forever".

Okay, now my two cents (or five or six^^):

1. Trackmania United was made to be an "environment platform". During the betatest of it, we tested different constellations of environments for each user to make the servers act correctly with each other, when someone does not own an environment. Together with other slight indications like the label "Environments: 7" in the editor environment selection menu, it's easily proovable, that there has been a plan to extend it. With this argument I absolutely see no reason to a) not extend it and make use of this modular environment platform, and b) to publish a Trackmania 2 and destroy the freshly established things with it.

2. Sunrise eXtreme for Sunrise, Original for PowerUp, and then Trackmania United and Trackmania United Forever... 4 resales of always the same product. Of course there have been cool new features, new blocks, everyone liked them. And also they have been for free, so noone was forced to buy something, so I won't complain here. But that does not change the fact, that basically the same game has been sold for the 4th time in a row, with nothing breaking new inbetween those years.

3. Trackmania Forever brought a big wave of disappointment. Everyone was teased by awesome screenshots in advance, and of course, noone would ever consider to revert to Trackmania United without Forever. But did Forever fulfill the high expectations? We have new Desert blocks, which are decorative (water), but they bring absolutely nothing new in gameplay (long curves, not even challenging, just flat). Same goes for the castle in Snow, which can at least be a little bit tricky. Rally looks most awsome and the blocks are fun to drive, but except graphics, it's not that new in gameplay either. I won't go into detail on those 3d glasses or copper or manialink features, which were new too...

4. Some players play Trackmania for nearly 5 years now. Everyone was so happy when Sunrise came out, finally something new to explore. Same with TMN when it came out. Now, after all those years, you have probably seen every combination of curves and blocks, which are possible, and people would really love to have more possibilities. Best proof: The wave of blockmixing. A very naive way of "extending" the blockset, but it shows that people are not satisfied with the same blockset they're playing on since years.

5. Nadeo extends their websites with more and more features. Let's not discuss about if people need these features, or if they don't. But what's more annoying, is that those websites are full of bugs (it's still not possible for me to add a tag to a player from an organization with the new player page (need to use the old tag page)...). Bug reports are widely ignored (no time, too much work, not the right software), and really urgent features (like moderator permissions on maniazones forums!) are not added. This is quite inconsequent. Better put that time into new game contents, if it cannot be managed to be done correctly.

So to conclude:
1. I don't say that Forever or the two expansions for Sunrise/Original are bad. Don't get me wrong. New features are very nice, they make the game less simple, but now it's time for new content. Nadeo decided to develop free feature updates 3 times in a row now, so why not having a content upgrade next time?

2. I really appreciate, that Nadeo cares much about eSports nowadays, but they should not forget, that eSports is not only Tm Nations. There is still a Tm United community, that wants to be cared of aswell. What's the point in developing an environment platform, and even extending it with features, if it is not used, resp. extended to continue usage? In my opinion the focus of Nadeo is way too much on Nations. They do everything to recruit more and more players, but one day, there won't be any new players anymore, and then the old people are gone for a long time already, because they were bored. In my opinion, Nadeo should try to also keep the old Tm United community, by adding new stuff, so they don't get bored.

3. Nadeos biggest argument "players should take a break and come back after a few months" is not really appropriate in my opinion. If you stop it one day, and find a game that's more fun, then you're gone forever (old people like OMFrancky and Co use to have a look into TM for a few hours every few months, but that's not really a comeback). Also it's not like bicycling. When you play TM on a league niveau and then take a break of a few months, you're out. Even after three weeks it takes you hours over hours to regain your level. So these two arguments of Nadeo are very very weak in my eyes.

Another thing I wanted to add from a personal point of view: The only thing that keeps me in the community for now, is ET and that I can contribute in such a cool system with new software and creativity. But if in -let's say- one year, there isn't any new content, I'll definitely be gone, since there's nothing that seriously motivates me to play.

PS: This is the short (and translated) version of a very long text which I posted on the German forums this year ^^
PPS: wow, I did not expect that vote do be that clear, cool to see.

my 3 cents now... :p

i won't go in much deeper than needed, let's just say that:

1) for the reasons mentionned above, a TM2 after the TMUF platform would make absolutely no sense, but sometimes, Nadeo doesn't make sense to us.
2) it will mostly depend if they need fresh cash or now, something i don't have a clue about. even though they are very successful (probably more successful than anyone ever thought they would be) with TMNF and the ESWC, the fact is that they are a business and they need to generate more revenues at some point. and to my knowledge, TM is they best and most visible product on the market.
3) therefore, at some point, i can expect to have some new paying content coming to the market, since they know that they won't be able to make people pay for upgrades like manialinks or coppers
4) when ? either when they'll need the money, or when the graphic engine is going to be too old... it has been upgraded with all the patches and releases we have seen over the years, but it is slowly starting to show it's age.
5) i agree with Inso when he says that what's keeping him on TM is ET... because this is exactly how i feel as well. i very rarely spend some time playing on the servers anymore... after 5 years, it is getting difficult to be surprised again
6) i also agree with someone else about something... at some point, a new competitor with better graphics, gameplay and with much more desire to develop things, will enter the market, and that could very well be the end of TM...

all being said, i hope that 2009 will finally mean some new paying content for TM... and with that, i mean new environments... (a few more blocks won't be enough)

as i only play TMN and actually would rather change to any other game like CS or maybe a gaming console instead of playing TMU there's "enough trackmania" for me
simply the endless discussed bugs are a thing that should seriously be fixed especially in the competitive scene of TMN. i would even consider paying for an update like that, whereas there could then be lots of problems most likely with the game versions,... cuz i bet most of the TMN players wouldn't want to pay for it and playing together with 2 different games sounds a bit weird =[

I have to agree that TMUF was disappointing, but the one thing I liked was actually the new TMO blocks. The desert blocks added new ways to mix things up. The snow castle blocks are interesting, and a lot narrower than normal snow blocks, which makes a welcome change. I think they could have been designed a bit better though, espesially the up-down turns which can't handle the normal speed on castle block sections. The rally blocks adds something new to the rally environment imo. Finally there are some blocks that it makes sense to use with boosters. The style of driving is also a little bit different on these blocks, and immediately reminded me a little of island.

The bay tunnel bug reappearance was the huge let down, but at least it made FET2 a little bit more exciting after round 1 when I discovered that bug :p

New environments would be what I wish for next, and for the first time properly tested for driving bugs (because when it's first released, Nadeo won't ever fix them because record hunters etc would be mad...). It has been a long while since anything really new happened. I will certainly buy an addon containing new envs, but another upgrade to the same old thing is not worth my money. If Nadeo can't come up with anything new, I hope someone else will give them some competition. As for Inso and Mazzy, it's more or less ET that's still keeping me connected to TM.

With those options you didn't really give us much choice PDT_001
- New blocks and new environments should have been different options imo

New content and i want to pay for it. Nadeo need to ask us for cash every once in a while PDT_030

I think i'd prefer completed tilesets on the existing environments compared to a new one maybe.
